DuPont Zonyl® Surface Protectors

Protecting newly laid terrazzo kitchen tiles from water- and oil-based stains has long been a problem.  The traditional way is to seal the surface which can alter the tiles appearance giving it a “wet-look” that is not to everyone’s taste.

DuPont are the World Leader in fluorine chemistry and offer Zonyl® Surface Protectors a range of fluorinated acrylic copolymers for protecting building materials and do not alter the appearance of the materials surface.

Zonyl® Surface Protectors impart:

  • Water resistance
  • Oil, dirt and grease resistance
  • Anti-adhesion properties
  • Anti-fouling properties

The Zonyl®’s impart low surface energy to the surface by modifying the pore walls of the material with a very thin coating that provides excellent water and oil repellency.  They also allow water to evaporate from the internal area so the treatment is “breathable”

The main products in the range are

  • Zonyl 329: a water-based fluorinated copolymer, recommended for protecting concrete, terracotta and paving stones
  • Zonyl 9027: a water-bourne fluorochemical solution, particularly recommended for protecting marble and fresh concrete
  • Zonyl 8740: an aqueous fluorochemical dispersion, recommended for concrete and paving stones
  • Zonyl 225: a solvent-based fluorinated acrylic copolymer good for protecting terracotta and marble

London to Brighton Charity Bike Ride 2007

At 6.30am on Sunday 17th June a team of keen cyclists from Alfa Chemicals and sister company, RIW, took part in this year’s London to Brighton Bike Ride. Organised by the British Heart Foundation, the annual bike ride is a very popular fundraising event which this year attracted over 27,000 cyclists of varying abilities.

The team comprised Mark Walker, Matthew Miles, Adam Jervis, Bob Burgess, Stephen Evans, Martin Radford, Trevor and Lucy Mathers and Sam Hedges.

Each of the participants completed the gruelling 54 mile course from Clapham to Brighton, raising over £1,000 for the charity.

The morning began with everyone meeting in Maidenhead at 4.30am to catch the minibus and transit van driven by Sara Bergstedt, a customer of ours who was kindly persuaded to get up very early on a Sunday morning to help out, and Louise Mesens.

The team arrived at the start line at 6.30am and began the 54 mile bike ride.  After a fantastic effort (and I hear a few hot dogs!) the whole team finished by lunchtime and earned themselves a well deserved drink in the pub.

Congratulations to the team for their hard work and success and thank you to everyone who has made a generous sponsorship pledge.
